RMS for Girls

RMS for Girls

Every pupil thrives and is prepared to shape their future

Why Choose RMS?

Families choose RMS over other girls' schools in Hertfordshire for many reasons—but above all, they know their daughter will thrive here. Our students achieve their personal best academically, develop real confidence, and most importantly, are happy at school.

RMS supports and celebrates individuality. We cater to girls who flourish in academic settings, as well as those with passions in sport, performance, art, and design. Whether she’s a scientist or a sculptor, a linguist or a lacrosse player, we help every pupil find and follow her path.

Our curriculum is exceptionally broad, and our ethos is deeply inclusive. We are not solely results-driven—though our outcomes are strong. Instead, we focus on adding value and supporting every girl to exceed her own expectations. Each student is genuinely valued for who she is.

Pastoral care is at the heart of RMS. Our nurturing, empowering environment enables girls to build inner confidence and self-belief. They feel good about themselves—and as a result, achieve great things.

Our flexible boarding provision adds an extra layer of support and opportunity to school life. Whether full, weekly, or occasional boarding, it offers modern families the flexibility they need.

Exceptional Destinations and Futures

RMS pupils go on to achieve remarkable things. Over the past seven years, 17 students have progressed to Oxford or Cambridge, while many more continue their education at leading universities across the UK and internationally.

In the last academic year alone, our students secured places at over 30 different UK universities to study more than 30 different courses—from Engineering to English Literature, Medicine to Music. Others were accepted into top art and textiles colleges, music conservatoires, and institutions in the USA and the Netherlands. We are also proud of those pursuing degree apprenticeships at organisations like Amazon and KPMG, taking gap years, or entering the world of work directly.

Our dedicated Careers Department, including a specialist Futures Zone and extensive Higher Education support, ensures every student is well-prepared for their next steps—whatever direction they choose. From university and entrepreneurship to apprenticeships and careers, we champion every ambition.

Our History

RMS has a long and distinguished history as one of the oldest girls’ schools in the country. It was founded in 1788 by Chevalier Ruspini to educate the daughters of Freemasons who were unable, through death, illness or disability, to support their families.

The School began with just 15 pupils and a matron in Somers Place, East London. It later relocated twice within London before settling in Rickmansworth in 1934.

In 1978, RMS became an open, independent school, welcoming girls from all backgrounds and faiths. Today, the vast majority of pupils have no links to Freemasonry. RMS continues to evolve while staying true to its values of inclusion, care, and educational excellence.

Our Mission

At RMS, we enable every pupil—regardless of background—to fulfil her academic, personal, and creative potential. We provide a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive environment where every child is recognised and valued as an individual, capable of success.
